Sullinger, 34, has officially retired after a over decade-long pro basketball career, and will now serve as player development director at his alma mater Ohio State University.
Salingjer officially announced his retirement, bringing an end to the 34-year-old big man’s professional career, which spanned more than a decade.
In the 2012 NBA Draft, Sallinger was selected in the first round by the Celtics. At the time, he was highly touted for his solid physicality in the paint and was seen as a rookie who could anchor the team’s defense in the paint in the future.In the NBA, he played for teams including the Celtics and the Raptors, appearing in a total of 269 regular-season games and averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. His powerful physique gave him a significant physical advantage in the paint.After leaving the NBA, he moved to the CBA, playing for teams such as the Dongguan New Century and the Shenzhen Men’s Basketball Team. His high-impact dunks on the court remain vivid memories for many longtime fans to this day.
Few people realize that his career has been plagued by injuries all these years. His long-standing excess weight placed an enormous strain on his knees, leading to a string of injuries both major and minor. His once-smooth career trajectory was completely derailed, and in the end, he had no choice but to reluctantly take a break from the NBA—without even a proper farewell ceremony.
Fortunately, his nomadic playing career has finally reached its conclusion.
