17yo table tennis players Chen Meng & Song Hongyuan, once teen teammates, now have separate careers in Qingdao. Viral post-match hug sparked false romance rumors, which are baseless.
After the final shot landed in the mixed doubles final at the World Junior Championships, 17-year-old Chen Meng reached her physical and emotional limits. Unable to steady herself, she fell straight into the arms of her male partner, Song Hongyuan, and her uncontrollable tears left streaks on the fabric of his jersey.

This clip from the competition shot to the top of the trending list without warning, and netizens who clicked on it couldn’t help but be surprised by what they saw. False rumors quickly spread
online that the two had been in a relationship in their youth; the rumors gained traction and began to sound increasingly credible, though they were, in fact, complete nonsense.
Song Hongyuan and Chen Meng are longtime acquaintances who grew up together in the Qingdao table tennis community, and were both selected by the Shandong Provincial Table Tennis Team as top prospects during their youth. During the years they partnered in mixed doubles, they won nearly every mixed doubles trophy at major youth tournaments, filling up the entire locker room with their trophies.
Later, their professional paths gradually diverged.

After joining the national team,
Chen Meng maintained a rigorous training regimen of three sessions a day. She stayed focused, gritted her teeth, and worked tirelessly, eventually making it all the way to the Olympic champion’s podium. Over the course of her career, she won a total of fourteen world championship titles. In recent years, after leaving the national team, she founded her own table tennis training center and has also been exploring new avenues in the sports industry.
Although Song Hongyuan showed remarkable talent for table tennis from a young age, he was never able to manage his mental game well enough for major competitions and failed to make a mark amid the fierce competition within the national team.so he chose to retire in his early twenties and returned to his hometown of Qingdao to work as a youth table tennis coach, spending his days helping young players hone their fundamental skills.
Today, both have settled in Qingdao and are busy with their respective careers. Their shared experiences of competing side by side on the court have long since become cherished memories of their youth, and the various rumors circulating online are nothing more than baseless speculation.

Everyone who has lived through their youth has had a few old friends by their side—friends who once fought side by side, giving their all to achieve a common goal. The joy of youth was pure and straightforward; when we won, we’d embrace and celebrate—free from the distracting thoughts that others might imagine.
Everyone understands the importance of taking things one step at a time, but when it comes to sticking with it day after day, only a few can truly make it happen. It’s good to
occasionally think of the old friends who walked part of the journey with you. There’s no need to speculate about others’ lives based on online rumors; the most meaningful thing is to live your own life with steadfast dedication.
